The Origin of the De la Riva Guard || BJJ Hacks TV Episode 8.2

Ricardo de la Riva gave jiu-jitsu one of it’s most popular positions. The de la Riva guard is an effective if somewhat advanced form of open guard that offers a wide variety of sweeps and submissions.

While many positions and techniques in jiu-jitsu can be found in other grappling arts, the de la Riva guard was an original creation of jiu-jitsu.

In this video De la Riva describes the origins of the guard that now bears his name, and he shows us how to make the position even more effective by avoiding common mistakes.
